Long-term data is so important and often rare so perhaps providing the benefits of long-term studies with examples would help back longer term funding for projects
There is also a real risk of drawing incorrect/premature/misleading conclusions from projects (e.g. restoration/enhancement/impact assessments) that are monitored over timescales limited to funding deadlines. We can provide evidence from literature to support this as a risk if it would be helpful.
Paul Renfro: Action needed to bring others in the funding arena to the table to discuss how we can change the way current funding structures work to enable longer term resourcing.
Understood and recognised world wide, means something to people so would be really beneficial in marine environment. Need discussion on how it would look
also from Room 2 discussion - finding ways of continuing to fund good projects that are delivering benefits. Most funding currently expects projects to be new ideas so existing good ideas can't get funding. Links to discussions on long term data sets.
Action suggested by the group - a collective letter to Welsh Government and NRW from a collection of stakeholders outlining the benefits of longer term funding. Posible committment from Jetske PCF?
Conservation zones - people don't really get it, but park or reserve is well understood. Positive phrasing to get people on board for this. Coastal Park Pembs - extend boundary to have marine park and all advantages that come with it.
Needs to have right resource to be correct, and sustainable resource to ensure it is long-term. Think about how is structured to avoid applying extra stress/pressure to tourism sector. May have lot of opposition, so be careful on how it is done to ensure have people on-board. Done on a Wales-wide level.
Action: Ongoing commitment between terrestrial & marine area statement teams (and our engaged networks), to work collaboratively at the coast. Joined / collaborative initiaitives, good communication flow etc.
Room 2 discussion - Perhaps some collective case to press for longer term funding - bringing together different sectors/categories for a collective voice
Room 2 discussion - Long term data is important and often rare so perhaps providing the benefits of long term studies with examples would help to back a case for funding longer term projects
Room 2 discussion - Need for core funding. Much good work is happening to make our seas more diverse, resilient and sustainable but more and longer term work could happen if there were core funding (rather than just project funding) for certain groups, partnerships and collaborations. Core funding needs to be considered for Green Recovery work too.

post project monitoring e.g. for EIA doesnt happen often.
Funding for public sector projects again isnt included - captial grants for capital (building) projects.. no pot for monitoring

Potential to gather revenue from this.
Revenue to pay for upkeep of reserve, positive label "reserve" or "park" takes us a long way and people understand it better
